Opus magnum

The Dark Side of The Moon was released on March 24 1973, and since, has become one of the most successful albums of all time, selling in excess of 35 million copies worldwide. But what matters most: It's a wonderful piece of art.

Modest Mussorgski

Modest Petrowitsch Mussorgski (* March 21st, 1839 in Karewo, Oblast Pskow; † March 28th, 1881 in St. Petersburg) was an innovative Russian composer famed for his songs and his operas on subjects connected with mediaeval Russian history. His major works include the great national opera, Boris Godunov, the orchestral tone poem A Night on the Bare

Mountain, and the piano suite Pictures at an Exhibition.

Pictures At An Exhibition

Pictures at an Exhibition is a famous suite of 15 musical pieces, composed by Modest Petrovich Mussorgsky in 1874. Mussorgsky wrote the work for piano, but it is better known in the form of various orchestrations and arrangements that have been produced by other musicians and composers. The version by Maurice Ravel (from 1922) is a virtuoso effort by a master colourist, and has proved the most popular in the concert hall and on record.

A fabulous non-classical interpretation comes from the British progressive rock band Emerson, Lake & Palmer and was released in 1972 as a live album. ELP play their own arrangements of the original piece, adding some new parts and some “pictures” of their own. It is one of my all time favourite albums.

Johann Sebastian Bach

Johann Sebastian Bach (* 21. März 1685 in Eisenach; † 28. Juli 1750 in Leipzig) was a prolific German composer and organist whose sacred and secular works for choir, orchestra and solo instruments drew together almost all of the strands of the baroque style and brought it to its ultimate maturity.

J.S.Bach

Definitely one of the most fascinating composers of all times.

Fathers Day

In Portugal Mother’s Day is celebrated each year on the 1st Sunday of May, while in Austria it is celebrated on the 2nd Sunday of May. While those dates are quite close to each other, one can’t say the same when looking at Father’s Day. In Austria it is celebrated on the second Sunday of June, but in Portugal it is celebrated on the 19th of March, almost 3 months earlier. No idea why. Whatever the reasons, in fact it is not at all important when or how you let your father how important he was and is for you. For most of us, just once a year wouldn’t be often enough anyway, I guess.

By the time a man realizes that maybe his father was right, he usually has a son who thinks he's wrong.

(Charles Wadsworth)

...or something like that... ;-)

Using one of my father’s own expressions: You are the best of all my fathers! ;-)
Thank you for everything.

Astor Piazzolla (March 11, 1921 – July 4, 1992) is widely considered the most important tango composer of the latter Twentieth Century. In addition to his work as a bandoneon player, his compositions revolutionized the traditional tango with a modern style — incorporating elements from jazz and classical music

in a style termed nuevo tango.
