In the 1980s, the name became Golly amid accusations that the character perpetuated stereotypes. It was finally dropped in 2001.

Why do we always have to make an issue out of everything? Several generations have affectionate childhood memories of saving Gollies from the back of Robertson's Jams and Marmalades, just as we did while living in England.
